HIDDEN TRANSMITTER (RABBIT) HUNT
NOTICE AND RULES

DATE: Check main Rabbit Hunt page for upcoming hunt date.

TIME: 1 PM Local. The hunt will be limited to three (3) hours.

HUNT FREQUENCY: 146.52 MHZ. FM
STARTING POINT: Potomac Mills Mall parking lot near Waccama Pottery. Each entire hunting team must begin at the starting point.

BOUNDARY: Eastern Prince William County - Bounded by the Occoquan River to the North; the western shore-line of the Potomac River to the East; the Stafford County Line to the South; and a line generally following Bacon Race and Hoadly Roads to the Stafford/Prince William Fauquier County Intersection to the West (includes the Independent Hill area)

WINNER: The first hunter or hunting team that finds (points out or touches) the hidden transmitter antenna or source of RF.

DEBRIEFING: A debriefing of the hunt will be held at or near the rabbit's location immediately following the hunt. Hunters should bring their own refreshments.

RABBIT: The winner of the previous hunt. In the event of a first place tie, the next rabbit (hider) shall be the team winning with the least members.

RULES:

  1. The rabbit's signal must be readable at the starting point.
  2. The rabbit must be located on publicly accessible property (parks, schools, libraries, shopping centers are OK). There are over 40 schools and 30 parks within the hunt boundaries. No rabbit shall hide on the right-of-way of an interstate highway.
  3. Once the hunt starts, the rabbit cannot change location.
  4. Any antenna configuration or polarization may be used by the rabbit.
  5. The rabbit shall monitor an alternate frequency (i.e. the Woodbridge Repeater = 147.24)) during the hunt. Any team dropping out of the hunt or in trouble, shall immediately notify the rabbit on this alternate frequency. All hunting teams are encouraged to monitor the alternate frequency.
  6. The rabbit shall transmit at exactly ten minute intervals, for 30 seconds each, during the first hour, starting precisely at 1 PM. The rabbit will not answer any calls (unless it is an emergency on the alternate frequency) during this time. After the first hour, the hunters can request thirty second transmissions on the hunt frequency.
  7. The hunting teams can use any amateur frequencies to coordinate their hunt except the hunt frequency and the Woodbridge Repeater (147.24).
  8. The rabbit will give each hunting team the position ribbon or card when approached and asked. The rabbit is responsible for any ribbons or awards.
  9. These rules may be amended by a majority vote of the the active hunters.
